Women’s Society of Cyberjutsu Presents Cyberjutsu Girls Academy

Training our youth in information technology and cybersecurity;

Preparing them for their future

NORTHERN VIRGINIA, September 17, 2013 – Women’s Society of Cyberjutsu announced today the launch of Cyberjutsu Girls Academy, a program designed to expose young ladies to the world of technology and cybersecurity. Girls tend to hold themselves back from further exploring STEM education and activities due to perceptions that are engrained in them at a young age from society and family. To girls, pursuing a career in STEM means they will work alone and won’t be able to help people, which is typically what females want to do.

Cyberjutsu Girls Academy will change this outlook and give the future generation of scholars and technologists the push they need to pursue STEM careers. This will be accomplished through a series of hands-on workshops held one weekend a month through the school year, starting January 2014, to keep the girls engaged in technology. Each workshop will center on a different aspect of technology from computer and mobile application programing to robotics. The girls will take home projects they create each week to show to their family and friends and encourage others to get involved in the program as well as in STEM learning. Girls ages 12 to 15 from all over the National Capital Region are invited and encouraged to participate in this program.

“Well, the incentive is to get them started at an early age so that when they get to high school, when they get to college they can be competitive in that field and they have that leg up. That’s what I want for my daughters,” said Ken Arnold, Photographer and Studio BOH owner.
